What is the difference between HDMI and Display port? And the benefits of them?

There are two interfaces that are frequently chosen for digital video transmission: High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and Display Port (DP). These technologies quickly replace VGA, GRG, S-Video, and other traditional analog interfaces. Display and HDMI cable ports compete with one another due to their popularity. But these technologies provide several specifications that are appropriate for different purposes.

Difference Between HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and DP (Display Port)

The point of difference between HDMI and DP is given as follows.

  • Connectors

The functionality of the HDMI connectors is categorized. Five different HDMI connector types are compatible with the HDMI cables' connectors. Only three of the five are frequently employed. For TVs, projectors, and other devices, Type A HDMI ports are utilized.

Tablets, laptops, and other devices employ tiny HDMI connectors of type C.

Micro connectors, Type D, and HDMI are used with portable electronics like cell phones.

These HDMI connectors are all 19-pin devices. For dual-link applications, 29-pin HDMI connections are also used. On the other hand, the display port interface has a 20-pin connector that comes in two standard sizes. Computers and display monitors require the full-size display port connector, while small display port connectors are helpful for small portable video devices.

  • Audio Features

Transmission of 8 digital audio signals at 12-bit and 192 kHz frequency is possible with both HDMI and display ports. The HDMI display module is superior in the case of audio devices because the display port does not allow ARC. The HDMI display module, however, has an audio return channel (ARC) that enables the video transmitter and the display unit to both output audio in accordance with specifications. This is helpful when a user wishes to play video on a TV but audio from a different sound system.

  • Length Of Transmission Cable

Since a phone, projector, video transmitter, and TV are only a few feet apart, HDMI cables are often short. They are frequently utilized for transmission distances of up to 2 km. However, HDMI signals can travel up to 50 meters over CAT5 or CAT6 cables, 90 meters over coax, and 100 meters over fiber optic connections. It can run up to 15 km at a poor resolution, but because Ethernet data cannot be carried by it, it cannot be integrated with Ethernet transmission media. In contrast, display port cables can extend the resolution limits of high-resolution transmissions up to 2 kilometers.

It will be easy for you to choose between HDMI cable ports and display port interfaces now that the comparison has been completed. Keep in mind, nevertheless, that the majority of display manufacturers use the HDMI TFT display interface in their goods.
