Which is better, IPS screen or TFT screen? What is the difference?
Leave a message
First of all, IPS is not a screen material, but the name of a technology. Its essence is actually super TFT, which means that IPS screen is also a kind of TFT screen!
To say which one is better, of course the screen with IPS technology is better. IPS screen changes the arrangement of TFT liquid crystal molecules (the liquid crystal molecules of ordinary TFT are arranged horizontally, while the liquid crystal molecules of IPS are arranged vertically), making it have a larger viewing angle, and there will be no obvious water ripples when pressing the screen surface (that is, the so-called hard screen), better color reproduction, and more realistic pictures, all of which are incomparable to ordinary TFT.
With so many advantages, it also brings an increase in cost, and the price will be higher than that of ordinary TFT panels.
What does IPS screen mean?
IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology is a liquid crystal panel technology launched by Hitachi in 2001, commonly known as "Super TFT".
Regarding the question of what IPS screen means, the advantages of IPS screen are high viewing angle, fast response speed, accurate color reproduction, and it is a high-end product in LCD panels. Moreover, compared with PVA panels, LCD TVs using IPS screens can achieve dynamic clarity of 780 lines. In terms of static clarity, it can still achieve high definition according to the high-definition standard of 720 lines. This panel technology enhances the dynamic display effect of LCD TVs, and can obtain better picture quality when watching sports events, action movies and other programs with fast movement speed. Compared with other types of panels, IPS panels are not prone to water pattern deformation when gently scratched by hand, so they are also known as hard screens. When you look at the screen carefully, if you see fish scale-like pixels facing left, plus a hard screen, then you can be sure that it is an IPS screen.
What are the advantages of IPS screens?
Flat-panel TV manufacturers have shown selling points such as "dynamic high-definition", "smart light", "free high-definition color", and "full-mode high-definition digital TV all-in-one", and have ignited a new round of competition for market share with differentiated advantages. Samsung's main PVA mode wide-viewing angle technology is widely adopted by Japanese and American manufacturers due to its strong production capacity and stable quality control system. At present, PVA technology is widely used in mid-to-high-end LCD monitors or LCD TVs. VA panels are also soft screens, and similar water patterns will appear when you gently scratch them with your hand.
Screen touch effect
Another major technical branch is the IPS panel, commonly known as the hard screen. The panel was previously jointly invested and produced by Philips and LG (LPL). Later, due to Philips' transformation, it invested in medical, lighting and other fields, and withdrew its investment in the IPS production line. Now it is basically supported by LG alone, and it has officially changed its name to LG Display (LGD).
Voltage influence
The characteristic of the IPS screen is that its two poles are on the same surface, unlike other liquid crystal modes where the electrodes are arranged on the upper and lower surfaces in three dimensions. This technology optimizes the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules and adopts a horizontal arrangement. When encountering external pressure, the molecular structure sinks slightly downward, but the overall molecule is still horizontal. When encountering external forces, the hard screen liquid crystal molecular structure is much stronger and more stable than the soft screen! Therefore, it will not cause picture distortion and affect the color of the picture, and can protect the picture effect from being damaged to a large extent. In addition, there is an S-IPS panel that is a modified version of IPS.
Comparison chart
The LCD panel with IPS hard screen technology not only has certain advantages in durability and easy cleaning, but also leads VA soft screen in functional parameters and performance indicators. Response time has always been the shortcoming of LCD TV, but with the continuous advancement of LCD technology, the picture tailing problem of LCD TV has been well solved on IPS panel. The advantage of short response time enables IPS screen to display clearer images in dynamic pictures. In addition, IPS screen also has performance advantages such as accurate color reproduction and outstanding black expression compared with VA soft screen.
IPS
According to the test results, it can be concluded that IPS hard screen LCD TV can excellently display dynamic high-definition pictures, especially suitable for the reproduction of moving images, without afterimages and tailing, and is an ideal carrier for watching digital high-definition images, especially fast-moving pictures such as competitions, racing games and action movies. Due to the unique horizontal molecular structure of IPS screen, it has no watermarks, dark shadows and flashing phenomena when touched, and is very stable, so it is extremely suitable for TVs and public display devices with touch functions.
