What are the configurations of LCD monitors?

1. Hardware configuration

Backlight module: Fluorescent tubes or LEDs are usually used as light sources to provide uniform background light for the liquid crystal layer. Its design affects the brightness, uniformity and color performance of the display. In recent years, LED backlight technology has gradually become mainstream. Compared with traditional cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlight, LED backlight has a higher energy efficiency ratio, can provide a more uniform and brighter backlight effect, and can also enhance contrast and color depth through local dimming technology.

Liquid crystal layer: It is the core of the LCD display, consisting of two parallel glass substrates sandwiching a layer of liquid crystal material. Under the action of the electric field, the molecular arrangement of the liquid crystal material changes, thereby changing the propagation direction of light and realizing image display.

Polarizer: There are generally two pieces, placed on the front and back sides of the liquid crystal layer, with polarization directions perpendicular to each other, used to control the direction of light. Only light with the same polarization direction as the polarizer can pass through, and the arrangement control of the liquid crystal molecules is coordinated to realize image display.

Color filter: It is composed of three color filters: red, green and blue. Each color filter only allows the corresponding color of light to pass through. After the light passes through the liquid crystal layer, it is filtered by the color filter to form a color image.

Glass substrate: As a supporting base, it is used to clamp components such as liquid crystal materials and electrodes. It is required to have high flatness, high light transmittance and good mechanical strength.

Transparent electrode: It is usually made of transparent conductive materials such as ITO (indium tin oxide), which are evenly deposited on the glass substrate to form an electrode array of rows and columns. The arrangement direction of liquid crystal molecules is controlled by applying voltage.

Driving circuit: Receives signals from external signal sources (such as computer graphics cards) and converts them into voltage signals to drive liquid crystal molecules. Its performance directly affects the display effect and response time of the display.

2. Performance parameter configuration

Size and resolution

Size: Usually in inches, it indicates the length of the screen diagonal. Common sizes are 15 inches, 17 inches, 24 inches, 27 inches, etc. Different sizes are suitable for different application scenarios.

Resolution: refers to the number of pixels that a monitor can display in the horizontal and vertical directions, expressed in the form of "horizontal pixels × vertical pixels", such as 1920×1080, 2560×1440, etc. The higher the resolution, the clearer and more delicate the image.

Dot pitch: refers to the distance between two adjacent pixels, measured in millimeters (mm). The smaller the dot pitch, the more delicate and clear the image, but the production cost will also increase accordingly.

Color performance: usually measured by indicators such as color gamut coverage and color bit number. The higher the color gamut coverage and the more color bits, the richer the color types that can be displayed and the smoother the color transition, such as sRGB, Adobe RGB and other color gamut standards. The wider the coverage, the better the color performance.

Contrast: It is the brightness ratio of the monitor when displaying a full white screen and a full black screen, such as 1000:1, 3000:1, etc. The higher the contrast, the better the performance of displaying dark details and bright details, and the stronger the layering of the picture.

Brightness: refers to the brightness value of the display when displaying a full white screen, and the unit is candela per square meter (cd/m²). The higher the brightness, the better the visibility in a bright environment, but too high brightness will increase power consumption and eye fatigue.

Response time: refers to the reaction speed of the display to the input signal, that is, the reaction time of the liquid crystal molecules from dark to bright or from bright to dark, in milliseconds (ms). The shorter the response time, the less the ghosting phenomenon when displaying dynamic images. Generally, displays below 8ms can meet most application requirements.

Viewing angle: divided into horizontal viewing angle and vertical viewing angle. The larger the angle, the smaller the color and brightness changes of the image when the user views the display in a wider range, and the better the viewing experience. The viewing angle of many modern LCD displays can reach 170 degrees or more.

Refresh rate: refers to the number of times the display updates the screen image per second, in hertz (Hz). Higher refresh rates can reduce image smearing and blurring, making dynamic content look smoother and more natural. LCD monitors with high refresh rates (such as 120Hz, 144Hz or even higher) are very popular in the e-sports market.

3. Interface and connection configuration

VGA interface: It is an analog signal interface, commonly found in older monitors and computer hosts. It can transmit video signals, but it may cause image blur and color distortion at high resolution.

DVI interface: It is divided into DVI-D and DVI-I. DVI-D can only transmit digital signals, while DVI-I can transmit digital and analog signals at the same time. Compared with VGA interface, DVI can provide clearer image quality and support higher resolution.

HDMI interface: It is a digital interface that can transmit high-definition video signals and audio signals at the same time. It has high bandwidth and transmission speed, supports high resolution and high refresh rate, and is widely used in computers, TVs, game consoles and other devices.

DisplayPort interface: mainly used to connect computers and monitors, providing higher bandwidth, supporting higher resolutions and refresh rates, and supporting multi-screen display and other functions. It is more common in high-end monitors and graphic workstations.

USB-C interface: Some high-end LCD monitors are equipped with USB-C interfaces, which support multiple functions such as data transmission, video signal transmission and power supply, greatly simplifying the complexity of connection and use.

4. Appearance and functional configuration

Appearance design: including ultra-thin frame design, making the screen look more spacious; various materials and colors of shells, providing consumers with more personalized choices.

Bracket and base: Some high-end LCD monitors are equipped with adjustable brackets and bases. Users can adjust the height and angle of the monitor according to their usage habits to obtain a better viewing experience.

Display mode: usually supports multiple display modes, such as standard mode, movie mode, game mode, etc., and optimizes the display effect by adjusting parameters such as brightness, contrast, color saturation, etc. to meet the needs of different application scenarios.

Color management: Some high-end LCD monitors are equipped with professional color management functions, allowing users to perform precise color correction and calibration to meet the strict requirements of color accuracy in professional graphic design, photography and video editing.

Eye protection function: such as low blue light mode and flicker-free technology, which can reduce the damage to the eyes caused by long-term use of the monitor
