Difference between LCD and OLED

LCD and OLED are words that are often mentioned in display screens, so what does lcd mean? Some people say that LCD screens hurt the eyes, and some people say that OLEDs hurt the eyes. So what is the real situation? Let's talk about which one is better, LCD or OLED, and the difference between LCD and OLED.

1. What does LCD mean?

LCD is the English abbreviation of Liquid Crystal Display, that is, liquid crystal display, which is a digital display technology. Since the liquid crystal itself does not emit light, something needs to illuminate them, so a backlight must be used to illuminate the screen. Its main working principle is to stimulate the liquid crystal molecules to generate dots, lines and surfaces with the back light tube to form a picture. The light source is filtered through liquid crystals and color filters to produce an image on a flat panel.

OLED is the English abbreviation of Organic Light-Emitting Diode, that is, organic light-emitting diode. OLED belongs to a current-type organic light-emitting device. It is a phenomenon of luminescence through the injection and recombination of carriers. The luminous intensity is proportional to the injected current. . Under the action of the electric field, the holes generated by the anode and the electrons generated by the cathode will move, injected into the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer, respectively, and migrate to the light-emitting layer. When the two meet in the light-emitting layer, energy excitons are generated, thereby exciting the light-emitting molecules and finally producing visible light.

Second, the difference between lcd and oled

Difference 1. The display principle is different

The display principle of lcd is mainly to generate electric field effect through the twisted nematic of liquid crystal molecules, so as to control the light and shade generated by the light source transmission during the power switching process, so as to display the image, and the color display mainly depends on the color filter.

The display principle of OLED is mainly composed of a luminescent material layer, without the need for a backlight. When the power is turned on, the luminescent material layer placed between the two electrodes moves the carriers, releasing the energy in the form of pulses, and the last electrode is Transparent, light can be seen.

Difference 2. The thickness of the screen is different

At the same technical price point, the material of the LCD screen should be hard and thick, and it cannot be bent. This is why so many curved screens use OLED screens today, because OLED screens are thinner and softer. The performance can be bent at a certain angle.

Difference 3. Different display effects

Compared with LCD, OLED display has higher brightness, faster response and higher definition, which can meet the new demands of consumers for display technology.

Difference 4. The difference in color performance

The luminescence and color of the lcd screen are mainly completed by the refraction of the backlight. When displaying black, the careful friends will find a white edge on the edge of the screen, and the OLED screen expresses the color by self-illumination, so this is not the case. It has a better effect in color display, and many TVs are advertised with OLED as a selling point.

Difference 5, different viewing angles

The OLED screen has a wider color gamut than the LCD screen, and the OLED provides a viewing angle as wide as 160°.

Difference 6, different energy consumption

The power consumption of OLED screen is lower than that of LCD screen, and OLED screen is better in power saving.

Difference 7. Different service life

OLED screens have a shorter lifespan than LCD screens. Because the composition of the material is different, lcd is an inorganic material, and oled is an organic material, and many data show that the lcd screen has a longer service life.
