What Is A Stretched Bar Display? What Is The Difference Between Original Stretched Display And Cut Stretched Display?

A stretched bar display is a long, narrow LCD screen with an aspect ratio far wider than that of conventional monitors. Featuring diverse sizes, crisp visuals and versatile functions, it is widely adopted in retail, transportation, banking, corporate premises and many other sectors, with its application scope continuing to expand.

Usually paired with a digital signage content management system, stretched bar displays support basic functions such as split-screen playback, scheduled playback, and automatic power on/off. They also come with advanced features including terminal group management, account permission control and system security management, plus extended capabilities like trigger-based playback, multi-screen synchronization and linked playback.

Original stretched displays and cut stretched displays represent two mainstream manufacturing methods for stretched bar screens. Their key differences are outlined below:

1. Manufacturing Process

An original stretched display is produced when the panel manufacturer cuts the LCD glass to the target bar-shaped dimension in the initial production stage. Its logic board and driver solution are custom-designed to match this specific stretched size.

The screen is engineered as a stretched form factor from the start with no secondary cutting required, which is why it is named "original" or mold-based production.

A cut stretched display is made by secondary cutting of standard 16:9 TV or monitor panels.

Manufacturers source regular-format LCD glass panels and cut them into the required long narrow dimensions according to customer specifications.

2. Technical Characteristics

Original Stretched Display

As it is custom-built at the panel factory, the logic board and driver circuit are fully optimized for the stretched form factor, delivering much more stable image performance.

The input resolution matches the actual active display pixels directly, with no extra adaptation or conversion needed.

Cut Stretched Display

Precision cutting equipment and professional craftsmanship are required to guarantee dimensional accuracy and product quality during processing.

The panel still follows the original 16:9 timing parameters for input, while the visible output area is cropped to the cut dimension. To achieve pixel-perfect 1:1 display, a custom HDMI EDID tailored to the actual cut size is mandatory.

3. Applications & Advantages

Original Stretched Display

It delivers superior stability and mature customization support, ideal for projects with strict requirements on display quality.

Due to custom panel development, it generally carries a higher price tag, backed by dedicated technical support and after-sales service.

Cut Stretched Display

It offers great flexibility and cost advantages, supporting fast customization of dimensions and shapes to meet varied project demands.

It is more price-competitive, making it suitable for cost-sensitive applications.
