What do you know about curved screens?

A curved screen refers to a monitor device with a curved panel. We generally know that it has the following characteristics:

Appearance Design: The screen is curved, with a certain curvature. The smaller the curvature value, the greater the degree of bending. It typically features a narrow bezel design, paired with a minimalist stand, resulting in a stylish and technologically advanced overall appearance.

 

Visual Experience: The curved edges of the screen provide a more uniform viewing angle, offering a wider field of view, reducing visual distortion, and creating an immersive, surround-like experience. This provides a more realistic experience when watching movies or playing games.

 

Ergonomics:Its curvature conforms to the structure of the human eye, making the distance between the eyes and all points on the screen more even. This reduces frequent eye focusing and eye fatigue caused by prolonged use.

 

Space Utilization: Compared to a flat monitor of the same size, a curved monitor has a shorter depth, taking up less desktop space and allowing for placement closer to the wall.

 

Display Performance:Some curved monitors use VA panels, which offer better color performance and contrast.

 

However, curved displays present a significant manufacturing challenge, primarily due to the following factors:

 

• High difficulty in processing the glass substrate: Flat panel displays use flat glass substrates, making manufacturing relatively straightforward. Curved displays, on the other hand, require heating the glass substrate to high temperatures to soften it, then bending it into a specific curvature using special molds. Afterward, it needs to be cooled and set. This process demands precise control of temperature, pressure, and the degree of bending; otherwise, the glass substrate is prone to cracking and deformation.

 

• More complex manufacturing processes: Manufacturing curved displays involves not only screen forming but also subsequent steps such as cutting, bonding, and encapsulation, each requiring higher precision control. For example, during bonding, the curved shape increases the difficulty of bonding different layers, easily leading to air bubbles and loose adhesion.

 

• Strict material selection requirements: Curved displays require materials with excellent optical and mechanical properties, such as high light transmittance and low reflectivity, to ensure display quality. Simultaneously, the materials need sufficient strength and toughness to withstand wear and impact during daily use.

 

• Higher Display Technology Requirements: Taking IPS hard screens as an example, the manufacturing process for making them curved is far more difficult than that for VA soft screens. Currently, only a few manufacturers are capable of producing IPS curved panels.

 

• More Difficult Quality Inspection: The curved shape of curved monitors increases the difficulty of quality inspection, requiring specialized testing equipment and methods to ensure that the screen's curvature uniformity, display effect, and other aspects meet standards.

 

Not just any monitor factory can successfully manufacture curved monitors; only factories with extensive experience, professional technology, and highly qualified quality control can accomplish this.
