What are the advantages and disadvantages of these three screens: OLED, AMOLED, and LCD?

The screen market changes very quickly. In just over a decade, LCD, OLED, AMOLED, and so on have emerged one after another. Do you know how they are developing? What are their advantages and disadvantages?

OLCD screens, AMOLED screens, and LCD screens have long appeared in every place where we live. They can be seen in the TV in the living room, the mobile phone in your hand, the computer on the desk, the advertising screen on the street, the surveillance camera, the car TV, etc. Do you know them? Display Exhibition will tell you about them.

The LCD screen controls the direction of rotation of liquid crystal molecules through the signal and voltage on the thin film transistor, thereby controlling each pixel to emit polarized light, thereby achieving the purpose of display.

The structure of the LCD screen is to place a liquid crystal box in two parallel pieces of glass, set a thin film transistor on the lower glass substrate, and basically set a color filter on the upper glass. Then, the direction of the liquid crystal molecules is changed through the signal and voltage of the thin film transistor, so that each pixel emits polarized light to achieve the purpose of display. At present, this technology is very mature, the market has been popularized, and the price is relatively low.

When talking about OLED screen and AMOLED screen, we need to know about LED screen.

LED screen is a new type of imaging electronic device that can emit light. It is made by arranging light-emitting diodes in order.

LED screen is made of compounds containing gallium (Ga), arsenic (As), phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), etc. Its light-emitting principle is to radiate visible light when electrons and holes are combined, thereby making light-emitting diodes. Among them, gallium arsenide diodes emit red light, gallium phosphide diodes emit green light, silicon carbide diodes emit yellow light, and gallium nitride diodes emit blue light. Because of their different chemical properties, they are divided into organic light-emitting diodes and inorganic light-emitting diodes, which are what we often call OLED and LED.

OLED and AMOLED are subordinate relationships, and AMOLED is a type of OLED.

OLED display is a display made of organic light-emitting diodes. As long as the correct voltage is applied to the positive and negative electrodes, it will emit light. OLED display is divided into PMOLED (passive matrix organic light-emitting diode panel) and AMOLED (automatic matrix organic light-emitting diode panel).

AMOLED screen can also emit light actively. Its biggest feature is that it can be actively controlled. It can control the working state of the diode through signals, giving a "bright" or "not bright" signal to realize the display of screen color. Most of the OLED screens used in mobile phones are AMOLED screens.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of LCD?

Advantages:

LCD technology is relatively mature, the price is relatively low, and the market has been popularized; LCD screens do not emit light themselves, and rely on backlight to drive the display. Its passive display characteristics are more suitable for human vision and are not easy to cause eye fatigue. The flat structure of LCD is more conducive to being used as a display window. It can be made very small, such as the display window used on cameras, or it can be made very large, such as large-screen LCD TVs and large LCD billboards. Disadvantages:

LCD screens have slow response speeds, so their performance in dynamic images is not ideal; LCD color gamut is narrow, and theoretically can only display 18-bit colors (about 262144 colors); the light angle is narrow, and the display seen from different angles will be different; LCD screens are not flexible screens, so they cannot be folded; LCD displays are relatively fragile and easily damaged. This increases the difficulty of using and maintaining LCD TVs. What are the advantages and disadvantages of OLED over LCD?

Because AMOED is an OLED screen, it is more appropriate to compare LCD and OLED.

Self-luminescence; the OLED screen itself is made of organic light-emitting diodes, and it can emit light after applying voltage at both ends. Wide viewing angle; the OLED screen itself is composed of light-emitting diodes, and its viewing angle is much larger than that of the LCD screen. Advanced materials; OLED screens use organic light-emitting materials. Wide application areas; LCD screens are mainly used in display technologies such as mobile phones and televisions. The OLED industry has a broad prospect and is considered to be the next generation of flat display technology. Different display; LCD screens emit light through backlight sources, and liquid crystal molecules refract to produce various colors, while OLED screens can emit light by themselves. More energy-saving and power-saving; OLED screens rely more on technology and craftsmanship. The higher the technology and the better the craftsmanship, the more power-saving it is. It emphasizes self-luminescence and does not emit light when the screen is off, so it is very power-saving. The screen is very thin and light, and can be folded; LCD screens have two layers of glass, and the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is very large. The structure of OLED screens is relatively simple, very thin, and has good curvature, making it a better material for making flexible screens. OLED screens also have their disadvantages:

Low lifespan, it is very difficult to extract organic macromolecular polymers, and the "impure" material directly leads to a reduced lifespan, and the red material itself has a very short lifespan, resulting in the overall lifespan being restricted by the red material; small size, OLED is far from mature in the production of large-area high pixel density and active devices, especially active PLED, that is, low-temperature polycrystalline silicon TFT-PLED process has not passed, so it is more suitable for small-size screens; poor reliability, due to immature technology and insufficient material purification, many OLED screens will experience recrystallization during use, resulting in reduced overall performance of components and reliability; high technical requirements, difficult production process, and great difficulty in material purification. These disadvantages have always restricted the popularization and application of OLED screens.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of AMOLED screens?

AMOED screen is a type of OLED screen. In addition to the advantages and disadvantages of OLED screen, it has another great advantage - it can be controlled to light up or light down. AMOLED screen can be controlled to light up or light down when it is driven by pressing the signal. In a popular way, ordinary OLED screen can be regarded as a lamp without switch control. As long as voltage is applied at both ends, it will always light up. AMOLED screen is a lamp that can be controlled to light up or light down by intelligent switch, and the intelligent switch can also adjust the brightness and color. AMOLED screen can achieve the effect of "pure black" through intelligent switch.
